Our Nursery

Established in 2009 under the strictest Malaysian quarantine guidelines to enable the importation of Backhousia citriodora (Lemon Myrtle) cuttings.

Lemon Myrtle has only a 3% growth rate from seed and despite cuttings being an expensive way to propagate, it does allow for selection of specific clones for optimal growth and oil content.

Due to the fact that Lemon Myrtle had never been grown outside of Australia, propagation was initially trial and error. Each cutting consignment was quarantined for 3 months and different trials were performed until optimal strike rate achieved.

The cuttings had 2 stages of growth:

  • Quarantine and rooting period.
  • Polybag – 7th month and beyond.

Our Tissue Culture Scientist has developed specialised protocols for Lemon Myrtle propagation which guarantee an exceptional strike rate. Further the material yields a high biomass in conjunction with high essential oil content.
